History of our School

In September of 2017, two schools, in the parish of Mayfield, amalgamated to become the co-educational school Scoil Mhuire agus Eoin.

The dream was to create one new and vibrant primary school in Our Lady Crowned Parish – continuing in the same strong traditions of the parent schools – Scoil Mhuire Banríon (founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1962 and known locally as “The Convent”) and Scoil Naomh Eoin Aspal (St John’s – founded in 1973).

Both schools journeyed separately delivering quality education for over 50 years. Throughout that time there was great teaching and learning, care and nurturing, sporting and civic pride, all underpinned by a strong Catholic tradition.

The amalgamation in 2017 brought the history of primary education in Mayfield full circle. Once again it would be in a co-educational setting as had originally been the case, up until 1962, at The Angel Guardian N.S. Mayfield
